Not exactly true - SGS does grade coins as well, with lots of PF70 and MS70 grades to be had. They do offer a service for circulated coins to authenticate and "certify" the coins as genuine.

    For your information:

(personal note - not what I consider to be the top 4 services (nor anyone else, for that matter), and org domains are designated to support non-profits so they must be in it for the hobby only! ;) )

Yes, I have heard of that company.
There are several companys that offer authentication services.
With a little effort, just about anyone can learn to grade coins.
Very expensive, and likely to be faked coins, may need to be authenticated, if you are intending on buying them, but common date, circulated Walking Liberty halves don't fall into that catagory.

This might sound a little rough, but I wouldn't pay any more for the coins in an SGS slab than I would raw. Actually, because you can see the coin better if it's not slabbed, there is a good chance I would pay more for a raw coin than one slabbed by SGS. JMHO

Don't get me started on these guys. Between their fishing tackle plastic slab, gold foil tape seal, and MS70 or PR70 "grades", all this outfit is a front for the ebay seller Aboncom. This sellers sells his own graded coins to newbies and I bought (stupid me) figuring maybe it was a MS67 or 68...but it is more like B.U. coins coming right from a mint roll.

This seller has over 40,000 positive feedbacks and will destroy you if you leave a negative.

Those that sell SGS slabs are people that have bought them from Aboncom who wish to find another sucker.

In a nutshell...stay away from these guys.

    Nothing weired about it.
These people are in business to sell plastic coin holders with paper inserts.
They'll use what ever angle it takes, to move product.

That's not exactly true - there are a great many fake or altered Walkers in the marketplace. Entirely too many !!

Don't ever make the mistake of thinking that just because a coin is considered common - it isn't counterfeited or altered. These are the biggest money makers the counterfeiters have because they are the easiest to sell. And that's because there are so many people who think the same thing you do.

That's not intended as a slam or a cut in any way - it just true.

Next one of these "encapsulation services" will strike up a deal with the gov't to put ASEs or Morgans on fighters, take em up, break the sound barrier and come back down.

Premiums for those coins that fly Mach 2.3 or higher. Coins flown on the Aurora will be confiscated and made illegal by the NSA and Treasury.

    SGC Scam

Thank you Ed! I am one of those newbies that you are referring to that fell for this scam. I have already paid for one of these auctions and had winning bids in for about 10 more. Since reading your post, I was able to retract 8 of those 10 bids. I sent Aboncom an email letting them know that I will take these coins to a professional to assure that they are indeed PR70. If not, I will quickly take advantage of their refund policy. If something looks too good to be true .....

I'll bet this "Proof 70" crosses as a 65 or 66. That seems about typical.
