HI folks - I don't typically collect paper money as I don't know much about it but I was on the BEP website and I came across the "Intaglio Print Subscription Program" and 2013 is “Ideals In Allegory." I have never heard of this program before but I immediately fell in love with the artwork and bought the set to frame. Question: Does BEP do a set like this every year? Are there production/mintage limit or is there any collector value to these? I like the pieces regardless but other the copy/pastes from the BEP website, I can't find out much about this series. Any input is appreciated!
Hi Taribor, welcome to the Paper Money forum! The short answer is yes, the BEP has an annual print program. And yes, there is a collector market. These used to be called souvenir cards and the Bureau has been issuing them for more than 40 years. You'll find more info on this year's series on the Souvenir Cards thread, and a lot more interesting stuff if you take the time to run through all the pages. http://www.cointalk.com/threads/souvenir-cards.94663/page-29#post-1662120
The interesting aspect of those for MPC collectors is that some of the vignettes were originally used on MPC's and banknotes from the Philippine Islands.
And that's covered in this thread here... http://www.cointalk.com/threads/engraved-mpc-designs-on-souvenir-cards.221756/
