I am not going to bring up pricing in this article. I am just going to talk about quality. I sent off for another littleton catalog. I got a small baggie of coins with it. They are nothing more than stuff you would get from change. A sac dollar, a pres dollar, a ATB quarter, a few pennies and two nickels. Going beyond what they asked for them....3 of the coins would never grade. One of the nickels had a very large gash in the cheek. One of the pennies had a gash so deep, it took off all the copper. The presidential dollar was badly damaged as well. These coins would not slab with a TPG. I am sending the coins back on my own dime. Last time I sent for coins was to check out prices, this time was to check out quality.
I'm confused. Did you order these coins? Or did they send them with the catalog? Is this part of their approval service? Actually, what did you expect from this? MS-70? I'm not quite sure what your point is? The pricing and quality of Littleton Coins has been discussed ad-nauseum. Again, you are not going to prove they're a rip-off. You got asmall baggie of coins with your catalog. How did they describe what the contents of said baggie. How about some pictures of what you received? Sorry, this is simply rehashing other posts, with no new information or proof. You just made a post that says nothing other than "Littleton sucks" without any hard evidence to the contrary.
Detecto, Detecto, Detecto, don't you understand? Coin collecting is not about saving the world it's about conquering it. It's about symbolically capturing a world we are un-happy with so that we may subjugate the unworthy wretches to His Majesty's Will. Do you see the conflick in that and trying to save the world? If you try to do both you will only do both poorly. Now if you'll excuse me, His Majesty wants me to acetone-board an uppity naive that came in the mail today.
They were not free. It came with a magazine. The magazine had some great bargains in them such as 10 VF 40's Mercury dimes for $82.50, and $39.95 for a circulated franklin half dollar.
Tim, if you feel that Littleton is so bad, why do you continue to do business with them? Are you not happy unless you have something to complain about? Negative people are usually treated negatively.
Okay, I'm still confused. Did you order a magazine, or a catalog? Did the coins come with said magazine/catalog, or did you get the magazine/catalog when you ordered the coins? were these coins a free gift, or were they sent on approval? Was the magazine good, or was it full of ads? For Littleton? Pricing in this situation, for what you got, is very important in determining your point. Yet you skim over that part of the transaction completely. Seriously, what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish here? We have all agreed, through hundreds of posts, that Littleton does not provide the best coin pricing. I understand the other recent thread on Littleton, that of a poster who bought from Littleton without understanding their business model, finding he overpaid for coins, and had to rant, even though he really had no reason to. But I understand his position and he needs to understand he learned a lesson, albeit a costly one. this thread, on the other hand, makes absolutely no sense. You participated in the last discussion. Having read those (and all the others about this company) you go ahead and place an order anyway. So Littleton didn't rip anybody off, especially you. So again, what's your point? If it's trying to prove Littleton is robbing newbies blind, you failed again, at least in my opinion.
Waste of time, IMO, to do this and then to rant about it. But if it amuses you to do so, then by all means, continue! And why couldn't you have saved your time (and return postage money) by checking quality on the first ones you ordered??????
Yet in your very next post... Why couldn't you "check out quality" the first time around, and do you really think us so naive that anyone would actually believe this? If you ordered from them, you did not do so for any other reason than to start this thread and continue on the anti-Littleton crusade. Had every coin been a superb gem and an unimaginable steal, you would still find, exaggerate, or simply make up something to complain about. It's getting very, very old, Tim.
If I ran Littleton , and had read your threads, ( and I bet they do) I would send you those coins just for the chuckles. Of course Statistically, your survey is faulty.
Well I got a letter in the mail stating I did not return everything. One of the packages had two sealed coin in it, I guess because I opened said package, they were too ignorant to figure that out. I did not open the sealed coins.
You did business with a firm that has been in business for a long time and is a known actor in the coin business. You can find negative testimonials far and wide, yet somehow you still managed to act obliviously and initiate business with them. It is as though you are a glutton for certain punishment - somewhat uncomfortably sado-masochistic to a degree. They certainly were the first mail order coin business I dealt with back when I was younger - and they soured me out pretty quickly with their ridiculous "approvals", mind you this was well before you were even born. That said, reputable dealers are a known quantity, and they are rather often not found in coin publications splashy adverts. Gees, I even know some are here on this very forum and have done big business with them many a time.
Actually, if they were priced fairly, I would've bought them. The 1st thread I made on littleton was to analyze their pricing structure. The 2nd one was to analyze quality. I only had one coin last time, vs several this time.
Tim, it's always "if"..... but "if" you realized that Littleton is a business that has a business model you don't appreciate (they want to make money and are not above selling coins at a higher price than they are 'worth' in the regular market) then why even go there???? Their product is not 'free', nor do they go around shipping coins on 'approval' as a courtesy. It's a business model that you don't need, but you seem to be heck-bent (pg language) using as a way to prove what a junk business they really are, and saving the world that way. In the meantime, you have perhaps not adhered to how to return the product the right way for them and they have sent you a letter regarding it. Why do you have to call them 'too ignorant' because there is a problem with you returning product to a company you don't like, and haven't from the beginning? (even before this idiot move) ---- yeah, mods, you can censure me, but the intent is not to call Tim an idiot, but to point out that he didn't have to go this route in the first place ---. Food for thought...... think about not dealing with Littleton ever in the future. Let them have their business model and leave it out of your life. There is no need to deal with them so you can save everyone else from them.
