Canadian Modern Coins => Curious?? => has anybody else been swept-up in the hoopla and bought both of these glow in the dark Dino-coins??!! I actually must admit that I love them!! ... it is always nice when there is a bit of "mania" surrounding a coin-type (and I've bought both of these babies just in case, ya know?!!) 2012 Pachyrhinosaurus Lakustai Specifications: Face Value: 25 cents Mintage: 25,000 Composition: Cupronickel Diameter (mm): 35 2013 Quetzalcoatlus Dinosaur Specifications: Face Value: 25 cents Mintage: 30,000 Composition: Cupronickel Diameter (mm): 35 Again => I really think these coins are cool => hey, don't fricken judge me, ya dawgs!!
I think they are cool too! I am going to look around for some to give to my nephew who is studying to be a palientologist.
Ummmm? ... well that's just it ... => they flew off of the shelves, so now you probably will have to go to e-bay to get either of these winners ... yah, these coins were kinda like "The Beatles" ... => complete "mania" took over and these babies are now very hot commodities!! (that's always fun, eh?)
Steve, ever the shape shifter with that avatar. So it's Bee Gees today? The kids just love these things, but they ain't sold at kid prices. Tells ya something about blue haired collectors......
I considered these when they came out but I just didn't pull the trigger. I was concentrating hard to collect the Niobium series.
Still waiting for my first one to show up. I guess ordering from Europe will take some time though. I'm hoping my order comes soon. I see the CA mint has already started to ship some of the coins. I ordered 5 of the glow in the dark ones, we'll see if they fulfill my order. I just plan on keeping 1 of each, then sell the rest.... nothing better than free coins!
I would have to agree. Call me an old fogey or whatever, I just cannot get into guitar shaped coins, Tuvalu colorized coins, or these. I simply prefer items that were designed to circulate as money. My worry is where is the line drawn? If the Franklin mint creates a 63 Corvette replica that some country allows to have their name stamped on it as "legal tender", is that a "coin". What about a special "Alexander the Great" plate stamped as legal tender of the Canary Islands? At some point you are collecting modern collectibles ala beanie babies or collectible plates more than coins IMHO. Btw, no offense meant Steve, just warning about what is down this road. But, each collector needs to find that line for themselves. Personally, I wish they WOULD have made these priced for kids and more available. Make these a $5 coin, and I would think about buying them for my son who likes dinosaurs. Iwould treat them as atoy expense, hoping maybe they would encourage him to collect coins.
costello => yah, I also bought the third coin recently (hey, not everybody has gotta like 'em as much as we do, eh?)
For those who like dinos on coins but find those glow-in-the-dark pieces to be a tad too tacky, there's Austrian dinosaurs. http://www.muenzeoesterreich.at/eng/produkte/jurassic-life-in-the-air Christian
That's a nice coin. For the medal collectors: http://www.medallic.com/galleries/dinosaurs_gallery.php I don't own those yet...dinosaurs may be my next series.
