I recently won this old coin at auction, not knowing what I was getting into but the age of the coin struck me as having value. I was wondering if someone could help me by telling me a bit: 1. about its age (approximate) 2. about its origins 3. about its value I cannot read the date but one side has what appears to be a head (maybe an indian?) and the reverse has an angel. Picture have been uploaded, sorry for the bad quality.
Looks roman the reverse is Victory, about 1700 years old. Picture is too small for me to properly ID.
If that is fact, what would a coin like this go for at say a coin shop? I won'ty part with it because I'll never have another one like this probably.
Kevin, lots of lower grade ancients are in the $5 to $15 price range. Remember they made thousands or perhaps millions of these. Some are rare and sought after and command high prices, but lots are not. Still interesting though and if you can take some larger pictures and post them, you will find out exactly what the coin is and be able to read up on it.
