I'm thinking of putting an offer in on this coin. I need a 1941-S FB for my registry set, but I can't decide whether the toning on this coin is attractive or ugly. What do you think? If you like it, would you be willing to py full PCGS list price for it? (PCGS list price is 74 for a 1941-S MS66+FB).

    Thanks for the help everyone!

Only you can decide if the toning is attractive. It is all subjective.
I personally like the toning, but it's not enough to add any premium for me.

My opinion is that the toning provides a measure of originality to the coin but that it has no effect on the value of the coin and is neutral in that respect. I find the toning moderately attractive and voted YES.

Not ugly, but not beautiful either. Just plain old nice and original.

If you like the coin and feel it is worth PCGS guide, make the offer. In my experience, one of the biggest mistakes some collectors make if focusing on price above all else. This is not to say they should pay whatever is asked for a coin, but focusing on quality, originality, and personal enjoyment should come first.

As for the toning, it is nice and original, but not worthy of an added premium.

Not really attractive and not really ugly or distracting... I'm more swayed by the finger print on the reverse, so would pass.

I agree with the consensus that the toning is neither attractive nor ugly. Ultimately, I think this thread helped me realize that I don't love this coin, so I'm not going to pull the trigger on it. The 1941-S will have to wait for another day! So many of this date/mint around, but finding a gem to my liking has been really tough!!

That is a great collecting philosophy that you are following. I never try to talk myself into liking a coin. If it doesn't WOW me from the start, I don't want it in my collection.

Btw, there was a dynamite 41-S MS68 FB that sold last week, but it was a little pricey!

As stated, I think it is neutral toning. Not a positive or negative effect on the price.

Lehigh - Wow, that is a beauty, but definitely above my price range!! Looking for a MS67FB or a really nice MS66FB or MS66+FB. All the mercs I've seen in this range have been really underwhelming.

Quite frankly, the assigned grade moves me but the photo doesn't.

Just a blast white guy who cares nothing about the toning hype, and one who refuses to pay extra for it. Only a humble opinion though........
