i have been wondering about this for a while. when was the last time you got a note that was older than 1995? i got one a few months ago. it was a 1981A $1 bill still in pretty good shape. i was just wondering about anybody else.
i remember holding paper money in the 80s and thinking I should save this in its great shade. and some day i will not see them with this date in my pocket like i do now. that was when i was 12. Guess what,,i dont see them ever. the oldest bill i have found in curc in the past 5 years was a 1985 $5 that was so worn out that if it got wet it would has "DE SIN OH GRATED" lol it look like a dog wipped its but with it. Speaking of beat up money. I found a 20 a few weeks ago dated 03 that looked like some one washed it to the point that it was pretty much all smudged into a grey green blured mess. it was LIMP and LIFELESS.
In the last 3 months: 1963A $50 in XF from bank 1969 $20 in vf from bank 1969B $10 from my aunt 1993 $5 in vg-bank 1990 $10 in f-from my sister 1993 $10-granny plus 2 1995 $10s and 1 1995 $5
I was down at the Activity Center for my school last week, which is like a gym, basketball, baseball, soccer, football, lacrosse, etc. sort of area, and I needed change for a 5 from the director there. He changed the bills with me and as I walked out of his office I looked down at the bills and only saw 4. I was about to turn around and confront him when I noticed that he had goven me a 2 dollar bill. I was kind of in shock, I hadn't seen one of those ever in circ. Anyways I decided to keep it and when I looked at the date it said 1995. Now I am not positive but when did they stop making these? I thought they stopped in the 80's. Peter ♣
Peter, they haven't stopped making $2 bills. In fact, they just increased the number produced this year from the previous few years.
A 1963A, B (BARR) in the same week, a 1981A yesterday (how ironic), 4 $5's from 88-A and the 90's, 69C and 93 $10 from Grandma-ma, a '90 $10 from a friend, a '93 $20, '81 and '90 $50 from the HSBC, and '90 $100 from same Grandma.
i got a 1995 $5 bill from change before. i like the older looking design on them. are 1995 dollar bills worth saving? i know to keep all the old style 5's 10's and 20's but i'm not sure about 1995 ones. my dad got a silver certifate in change before
coinpro, Wow thats wierd i thought they stopped. I thought that maybe my athletic director was making 2$ bills in his basement  , and that i would be able to bust him:hammer: . Dang! Peter
I think the oldest bills I see in circulation are from 1995. I too wish I would have saved some from the 70s and 80s. I remember when the $2 dollar bills came out in 1976, it was a really big thing then with the bicenntenial and all that year. I wish I would have gotten a stack of them back them and released them into circulation today.
In the last month i've gotten two 1981 $20's in VF/EF 1990 $100 in VF 1969 $10 in EF I've saved them all, but i'm kinda itching to spend that $100. Unsure if it's worth saving.
I save every single pre-95 bill I find. The "old style" bills have become rather extremely rare in circulation on account the FRB's destroy whatever they are sent without question. The only exception I would give for spending an old bill I found is if it were damaged from writing or tears.
So, would any of you spend a very decent condition series 1990 $100 note?? I'm not hurting for money or anything, so it's been sitting in a sleeve, but i don't want to save a $100 for no good reason.
I would save it for the fact that the old hundreds such as the one that you have, have not been reissued and released for circulation since 1996-11 eleven years! Some banks out there even pull the old bills just to send them off to be destroyed. That to me is simply wicked and evil. Also the bill you have may be more rare and special than other 1990 hundreds depending on the block and serial.
