I have decided to have a complete nickel collection (1866-2013) I have the Jefferson nickels almost done, buffalo and liberty v nickels im just starting. I don't yet have one shield nickel yet. (or the folder) im missing two folders shield nickel folder and Jefferson nickel book three.
If I were going to put together a set of nickels my first step would be to get one coin of each design in the highest grade I could afford. Naturally they would be common dates. That would be my "show and tell" set (actually nothing more than a nickel type set). Then I could sit back and fill in all the rest of the date/mm combinations.
Are you going for a complete date set? The 77 and 78 are proof only - the 79,80,81 are killers price wise. I think shield nickels are really cool. The last dansco album I saw it included the 77,78 and 83/2 - no way I would fill those holes with coins. You might just want to get a blank page for shield nickels. I don't know of another album - I don't like the folders from Whitman.
Nothing wrong with that - I just prefer to see both sides of the coins. The Whitman folders I used to use had 1 of 2 problems - either it took a sledge hammer to get it in or the coin slid in so easily it would pop back. It is just a preference. Notice I said Whitman folders - does Whitman have an album like dansco? I will have to google it to see. And if you get them free - that is just a nice little bonus.
