I am very much interested in this coin, but the description states " repaired and whizzed ". Can you describe what repaired is? If this coin were not in it's holder what would be your opinion. Oh yes! They want $2289 http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3748/9472631209_2f448e404d_o.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5490/9472631083_b79ccdd3ff_o.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7385/9472631263_6ba227f1a9_o.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5516/9472631151_b7a5e76127_o.jpg
I would not buy it for that amount. it's a problem coin. in the long run you will not be happy with it. buy 1 that has not been cleaned. if you buy this coin good luck selling it. most collectors will see that whizzed and repaired and run in the other direction.
That's in tough shape, too. My thought? If you are gung-ho about buying one of those now, and the cash is burning a hole in your pocket, go for it. But don't cry about it later.
You might want to track this one cleaned but does not look too bad even if it is in a details holder. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1799-Bust-D...80?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f280a43b4 Note not my auction and do not know the seller enter into any agreements at your own risk.
Do you know what whizzed means ? It means that somebody went over the surface of the coin with a motorized wire wheel in order to fool the uneducated into thinking the coin has luster. As for repaired, it looks like the coin was removed from a jewelry mount, and somebody tried to repair the damage done to the coin by the mount so the damage was not so visible. And no, you should not even entertain the idea of buying that coin.
