oh come now.. who here would not want a full set of gold plated and colorized state quarters that Grandma took the utmost care, love. valuable time and your inheritance money choosing for you?
I'd tell them to avoid shop at home coin shows. Next, I'd give them a list of the specific coins I'm always on the look out for ('09-S-VDB, 22 plain, Caesar death coin (the one with the daggers), 1856 FE, 1895 Morgan... "the usual suspects"). Then, I'd put them in contact with my coin dealer. Finally, I'd send them to a coin show. If they didn't get sticker shock or get gun shy after the call/visit to my coin dealer, then they can go to the coin show and get blasted. My coin dealer in Cali told me of a lady coming in to his store to buy her son one of the Lincolns from his list. She started asking about the 09-S-VDB, the 22 Plain, etc... She seemed to think these were $100 coins. As in, no more than $100 per coin. My dealer told me it turned out to be an educational visit for her, after the sticker shock wore off. 5 more days and we all get to see what spoils my dad got for me at the NOVA coin show.
They can send it instead to any one of my six kids and I guarantee your relatives will get a nice hand written letter back tell them how much we apreciate this kind and loving gift. Ruben
