I am new to coin collecting and have been buying my coins mostly on EBay. Every one that I have purchased have been graded. What about non-graded coins?? Yes or No?

sure, why wouldn't you buy a coin if you like it?

It would be the disappointment of buying a fake.

Buyer protection does no good if your seller closes up his account, it's been done before, read about people getting hooked for 25k.

Anyhow, I would ONLY buy a $100+ coin if it's being sold by a seller with at least 200 feedback, and a return policy. If the coin is raw and more than a grand, I would only buy slabbed, IMO.

I have bought just about every kind.

I stay away from ungraded key date coins that appear high grade. They are usually cleaned or have some other problem un visible in photo.

well, I doubt any of us so far on this thread are buying 25k ungraded coins.

Ebays buyer protection comes from Ebay not the seller. if you can prove you got scammed, ebay will refund your money regardless if they can get ahold of the seller or not. of course if they do get ahold of the seller they will expect the seller to refund money to ebay.

thats the way they explained it to me. I bought an item that was not shipped and couldn't get ahold of the seller. its a big pain in the rear.

I've read a number of stories from people who didn't understand Buyer Protection.

As x115 said, Buyer Protection comes from eBay, not a particular seller. The biggest BP claim I personally have had was for a bit north of $4K, and in that one, the seller did disappear (zero communication after the auction closed). I had at least one other four-figure BP claim where the seller disappeared as soon as I contacted them about the problem. In both cases, eBay came through, no problem.

I did have one occasion where eBay called me to follow up after a large BP claim. I'm sure they have loss-prevention policies in place, and when I had a brief burst of BP claims (I was more clueless then about bogus auctions), they probably wanted to make sure I wasn't running some sort of scam on them. But, again, they always came through.
