I recently showed a beautifully toned dime to a coin dealer, simply to show the toning. It was a 1963-d I had pulled from an old bank roll that I purchased for melt. The dealer said wow, that is a nice double die reverse. I took a look, and sure enough there was strong doubling. It is an fs-801. He suggested I go home and look through the rest of the roll, and after doing so today, I found 23 out 50 coins were double die reverses. All are in ms-65 FB+ condition, and according to the cherrypickers guide, worth around 200 dollars ( not sure how accurate the values are). Looks like I may be able to pay off a good chunk of my student loans :)

    zaneman,

Congratulations and great find! That is $200 each, right? If so, then that probably equates to $100 to $150 expected return on the coin market! I definitely need to start purchasing some Dime rolls to look through.

So much for never buying a roll because they've been cherry picked.

Zane, before you do anything with those - you need to take careful notes and some pics. Then write it up pal. You've got an article worthy of note - all ya have to do is write it. Documentation is important though, that's why the notes. A small hoard like that doesn't come along very often. It'll have an impact on the market for those coins.

Nice find, the total wouoldn't even take 25% of the INTEREST of my student loans!!! Now if I found a THREE rolls of MS-65 1909-S VDBs that would be getting close to my student loans!!

Great find! But, realize that the cherrypickers values are pulled out of the air. This is not to put a damper on your find, it is great.
The only way to find out what you may have in value is to try to sell them. JT Stanton puts values on varieties, but do not buy, nor collect them.
I would be careful about spreading the word on your quantity, it may depress the values. But, definatlely get at least one slabbed, perhaps the nicest one, to verify the variety.
GOOD LUCK! (Opps, I forgot, you already had good luck.)

Now the question is, "Will you be able to get more than $10 apiece for these supposedly $200 coins?" I think there are a LOT of the values in the CPG that are probably figments of someones imagination.

Everyone, my camera is broken, but I will be taking these home at christmas time, and photograph them with my parent's camera. I will post pictures then, and I intend to have one slabbed, and attributed, see what I can get for it, and go from there. :)

Don't forget your dealer. I'd drop some $$ on him for his sharp eye. Or maybe just gve him a few of the coins.

After all, you don;t want to sell them all in one place, so let him have a few as a reward. Or, ask him to sell one or two for you, then you'll give him a few to keep.
