Got this in today! Check out the edge lettering! Not sure how to price it, but it's the first one I've seen like it.
Get certified if a rare variety because unless you get the rare expert with $$ who wants to pay market value you likely will not get it. The coin is otherwise damaged
Though I cannot confirm your finding, something does appear to be going on among the edge lettering. Awesome coin!
The seller had provided one fuzzy pic of the edge and mentioned it was an error, but my Overton variety book described what I suspected it was. Neat how the word FIFTY is written upsidedown over itself. I have a few more pics of the edge. It shows all the lettering then you can flip the coin over and read it all again, stamped over itself. I've never seen it before.
I think that's really cool. Are you planning on having it certified? Is this going in your collection?
Is it just me or does this coin look a little funny. I know nothing about capped busts at all but this coin looks strange. Have these coins been known to be counterfeited?
Why not take a shot? It's the rarest known edge error variety and there are no others on the market that I can find... so I guess I'll set the market.
I think I'll just post it in every forum on here and tell everyone I turned down a multi-million dollar offer, LOL!!!
Very cool coin and I think your approach to selling it is good. With rare varieties (is it subvariety?) like this you have to find the right buyer, but once you do they will often pay a hefty price, time is your friend.
That is a good standing point. something this rare you can possibly get any price for it. Good luck with the sale.
