Last night I check the Weight in 34 of these dollars. On 33 of theme the higher was 22.94 Grams, and the smaller was 22.34 Grams. BUT THERES IS THIS 1971 WICH WEIGHT IS 23.42 GRAMS. In the Red book said; Silver Issue: weight 24.59; and Cooper-Nickel Issue: weight 22.68 Grams. Some body Knows what happen with this? Because It's on the middle of both?
Carlos, the weights you give are the nominal weights, but the tolerances for the Silver issue is 24.59 +/- 0.984 grams, and for the clad 22.68 +/- 0.90 grams. Each tolerance was defined as 4% in the legal authorization. From your weight data , it would appear it falls into the clad range. The edge should show the copper color core.
Thank desertgem for the information. Yes; it has Red Edge. And most look like you said. Only 1 Question. WHERE I CAN FIND ALL THOSE TOLERANCES? About size, thickness and specially weight?
Coin World Almanac has tolerances for weight and also gives the specs for diameter, weight, and specific gravity. (Specification for thickness for a blank has meaning, but not for a coin. Tolerances for the thickness of the blank can be calculated from the other specs)
One of the best books on US coinage I own is Walters Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of US and Colonial Coins, 1987, Original List Price $75. I bought it then and have used it so much , the binding is loose. There are some errors in it and some stats others have claimed were made up, but tremendous amount of information. It gives the tolerances and compositions and the authorizing acts.

19Lyds. YEP. I tried to put some pictures, but for some reason they didn't go thru. Then what I did was Open another Post with the same coin but pointing the Doubling on the Reverse. Thank 19Lyds for the advice.
