What? The Franklin COINS where more than two and the SF Coins where 2 at least, one for different bullions as I recall. That is at least 4 coins without looking to see how many kinds of Franklins there were (weren't there 3?).

What law restricts is two seperate commemorative programs for each year. That is Ben Franklin was one and San Franscisco Mint was the other. This law does not restrict how many different designs of coins can make up each program. That is determined by the specific legislation creating each program.

    mint original sealed box?.

stupid enough not to open the box to check all those coins. coins bouncing back and forth while travelling. because the mint personnels did not do its duty to push a liitle bit inside the hole. some bidders pay premium for unopened box. because they knew they can get a lot of perfect or near perfect coins. well, why not wait for when you really want to sell them in the future. and have it graded by profeesionals. and you will still get those perfect or near perfect coins. and at that time, the price will be much much higher than what you sell now. remember, a lot of perfect coins came out from all modern coins. don't buy any premium on those coins. because if you buy direct from the mint. sure you gonna get a lot of perfect or near perfect coins. that's my view. beside that, if people willing to pay a premium on unopened box. that's mean that box will be worth more than what he is willing to pay you. just simple math.

Welcome to the early 1970's and before when that WAS the standard procedure. Oh and back then Checks only, no credit cards, the checks were cashed immediately, and the orders were not tracable and could not be cancelled. (returns were difficult to impossible) You people that whine and moan because you don't get your coins for two months are wimps. :)

Good point there. One thing thought events such as the anniversary gold eagle sets (sold out in what ever it was) would take on a whole new meaning:)

If this were the 1970's I'd agree that people shouldn't whine and complain, however, since this is no longer the Stone Age I think some complaining is in order and completely justified and somewhat fun too. :mouth:

P.S. I keep seeing the FedX and UPS trucks driving by and not stopping. A little frustrating.

    I got them today!

The only thing that is bothering me is the "pit" next to the date on one of my RP's, and all three of the RP's that I bought have the exact "scratch mark" below the P on the reverse side. Did anyone else receive theirs with that same scratch?? Also, they are already showing signs of toning. Is that a good thing, does this normally happen so soon?

The toning is more than likely due to your home environment and how you have stored the coins than anything else. And yes it can happen that quickly under the right conditions. If you wish to stop it, you need to change those conditions and/or the storage method.

That might not work. Once reactions start, they tend to continue for a number of reasons.

With coins, it usually does work.

    Sometimes ....

Most people are familiar with the fact that once iron and steel begins to rust, that it gets much wost unless chemically treated. I believe that is because the very organized structure of Iron and Alloys gives way to a system with more entropy when the rusted area and the non-rusted area are in contact. This creates a gibbs potential and Volia! RUSTED

OTOH, many metals actually use the coating to become more stable because of the coating. From an phys chem presprection this is counter intutitve (such as a hott air ballon rising) and it would have to do with examining the whole system. Examples of such metals would be anodized aluminum, the copper or bronze on many stautues (like the statute of liberty).

Once corrosion happens on a coin, it will normally accellerate without intervention. I've seen that with toning as well, especially pennies. Once they turn brown, they TURN brown.

Silver is chemically very complex. I don't know much about the toning of Ag BUT, I know it is impacted by acids. If toning is because of some mild contact with an acidic environment, that will likely stop once the coroding factor is removed. Once my silver wine cup and candlesticks tone, they accellerate if not polished.

But, this is all speculation on my part. I'll study this after fingerprinting dipped coins.

I agree, my 2-sets finally show shipped 12/20/06. I was getting really worried. How will single sets be sent? Regular mail I assume.

I have just received them...? That's why I'm questioning how soon a coin tones, I believe they have just produced these Reverse Proof coins, and they are already showing signs of toning.

Toning begins from the moment the coin is struck - after that it is just a matter of degree, in other words how much it tones and how fast. And as I said that is entirely dependant upon environmental conditions. Under the right set of circumstances, very visible toning can occur in days.

There is also the very real possibility of the toning being the result of something done by the mint. For example, when the planchets are washed if they are not thoroughly rinsed there may be residue left on the planchet. This can and will cause toning. Or if the mint is again experimenting with the washing process they use, that could be it too.

It could be any of the above. But since there have as yet been no other reports similar to yours, I am inclined to think it is most likely the first scenario.

I have the same thing---just a small spot near the rim of light brown toning---my Bro-in-law didn't like it so I kept it...when the set came the REV proof was out of the case...but no marks or hairlines so all is well!
