Take a look at the pics uploaded...my images come through blurred and "ugly". I have a Nikon P80 Coolpix, and set White Balance and Macro settings. I struggle more with smaller coins; pennies, dimes, etc. With pics shown, is there any advice you Pro's can give a N00B?
In the 'old days' it used to be the speed of your film. If you had a very high ISO you could shoot subjects in lower light situations. Also, you could shoot 'motion' a whole lot better without things getting blurred. A higher ISO on your point and shoot camera might compensate for 'shaky hand syndrome' but the best way is to use a tri-pod with the camera timer set. Also, you might add a little more contrast when you do your photo editing of the pictures.
the ISO is your cameras sensor sensitivity to light. you can take photos in low light with a high ISO setting. but the photos become noisier the higher the ISO is. thats why its important to have plenty of light. so you can shoot with a lower ISO. a good photo consist of a proper balance of settings. ISO,shutter speed, aperture and light. easier said then done. I struggle with it all the time.
Me struggle too all the time Kimosabe. 'Specially with a blasted 'point and shoot' with absolutely no ability to control F stops. Been lusting after a Nikon D 7100........it's quite possible it may become a reality for me but the research continues.......
The only thing I don't like about it is that it has video capabilities. I don't shoot video, I shoot frames. If I want a video platform, I'll buy a video platform. Don't work it into the auspices of a DSLR. Jury's still out.......
my canon has video capabilities.but I keep it disabled until I need it. I rarely use the video option.
