I have an ungodly fascination with mintmarks, so I have been looking over some Philippines coins that were minted in the US and thus have US mintmarks. I have a 1944-S one centavo coin and a 1944-S 50 centavo coin, both of which have the ball-serif style "S" mintmark. Maybe someone can help me with a few things. First, it appears that the punch was used upside-down (the flat end is on the bottom) just like the majority of US coinage from that period. Does anyone have a Philippines coin with an "inverted" (i.e., right-side-up) mintmark? Second, does anyone know if more than one mintmark style was used for the Philippines coinage? There were at least 3 different "S" mintmark punches available for that year. Finally, if anyone has the 20 centavos coin with the D/S, can you post a picture? I am curious as to how it compares with the two D/S OMMs on the 1944 cents. Mods, I was unsure where to post this, so if you think this better in the world coins section, please feel free to move it.
