    What do think?
Is this Merc AU , BU or MS 68? It has nice luster. The lower half the fasces is what makes me wonder. Is that a weak strike or circulation wear?

  3. Honestly, kind of hard to tell from the images. I say wear at Liberty's wing behind where the ear would be. JMO.

Hmm very hard to tell but imo I would say this coin is not a ms 68 but more like a 65 but one never knows !!

I can go with that. That's the best grade you have ever given anything I have posted. I'll take it!

No wear that I can see Greg , weak strike on the fasces . I agree with the others around a 65 , in hand it could be AU-58 to 67 . Nice coin BTW .

    Thanks R!

This is one of those tough decisions on whether to send it in or not. It needs to be a 65 to make it worth it. 64 won't cut it.

That's the tricky part with tpgs , at 65 and up they really start to look at the strike . I think it has a good chance though , but only you can make that call on whether to send it in , good luck bro .

It's a nice coin and I don't want to disappoint you, but it looks like there's some wear on the reverse - that would make it a high end AU. In case the pics are blurry I could be wrong. It doesn't seem to be a FB/FBS either, so I doubt it will get a high grade.

Knowing gbroke's luck with grading companies I feel he will get a 63 :p

PS: if you google for 'pcgs photograde' and compare your coin to the AU-58 picture on the pcgs web site, you'll see the same traces of wear on liberty's hair (obv) and diagonal bands (rev).

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided not to send it in because it's just too close of a call. I don't want to throw good money after bad.
I have decided to try my hand at sending in some moderns due to the lower cost.

I agree with this in theory. However weak strikes show their weakness in the high points. Sometimes it's difficult to differentiate between circulation wear and weak strikes or die deterioration.

You very well may be right, but I just wanted to throw that out there. :)
