k, so if you read my previous thread, I need help! you will know I recently brought into my collection a liberty v nickel that had three numbers showing, 188 and the last one was either a 7 or 5. well the results are in. and, its a 5! I am so happy right now! all I need to know is the redbook price (I want to know its value, might sell it if the coin shop lets me keep it. they gave it to me for free without knowing the date.)
    here are some pics.

P01 I'd say sell it if you can get over $100

I made an oath to myself a while ago, "I will not sell a coin unless in the triple digits or higher." I have broken it twice. I have got to stop doing it though.

rest of the oath: "if I come across a really rare coin I will defiantly sell it."

face looks a little better than mine, so dose the date, but everything else is worse.
the date and face looks like it brought out with high acidic vinegar. plus everything on eBay (single coin wise when it comes to some coins) is cheaper than you can actually get for it. so I would say $120 on ebay, and I might get $130 if I sold it to a dealer

Hmmm, I don't think you would get $130 from a dealer. Keep in mind that they need to make a profit, too, do you really think they can make much on a P01 if they bought it for $130? My personal opinion is no. Either throw it up on the B/S/T here on the forum, or put it on ebay. I'd be interested to hear what you get for it. Best of luck.

Just wondering, how was it determined it was an 1885

    Not to my eyes.

Why do you think it really matters how a coin was restored? In this and other threads you've implied that a nic-a-date and/or some other concentration of vinegar are unacceptable, but whatever you use somehow is. Regardless of what you may have read or think, restored is restored. I understand that one could make an argument for a more uniform appearance, but with a date like you are hoping this coin to be, what matters most is that there is absolutely no question about the date.

This makes absolutely NO sense, CG. Unless I somehow misunderstood you, if all coins are cheaper on ebay, why would any dealer buy person-to-person when all they need do is hop online to buy a comparable example for less? Why would anyone sell on ebay if the local dealers will always pay more? Have you ever thought about where many of the coins sold on ebay actually come from?

I do not mean this to be rude, but if you truly believe this, you are likely in for a very rude awakening.

I played around with one of your photos from the other thread, and if I may make a friendly suggestion; pay very close attention to the third digit. Considering how poor the image was, I am not comfortable making a definitive call either way, but will say that even with an overlay, I was unable to match the upper loop to that of an 8. With that said, I do hope that I am wrong and wish you only the best of luck.
