    I think it's a large die gouge/dent.

Even better match for DDR Rotate a back -170deg. Now the stuff at the left side of surfing Abe's memorial is explained by the similar area noted in the rotated pic. Also, the surf board is now explained by the roof of the center bay.

What you have pictured in the first few bays is a die clash.

We went through that, and how it cannot be. Unless, perchance you can show us?

There are such things as misaligned die clashes, where the dies are not correctly aligned with each other and they clash. Not every single clash you find will match an overlay. Exactly I'm pretty sure that's what we are seeing here.

Assuming it is just one clash, you have to be able to match both the surf board and the other stuff from the same mis-position. I am not seeing that, do you?

It could be a clash with a large die dent, which is known to occur.

DDR CCW 170 seems more likely :)

In my opinion, no, it does not.
But, if it does turn out to be one, I would send it in, as a DDR that drastic would command a very nice premium.

Well well well ... here is ANOTHER example of this DDR, same issue in that same bay.

Tis mine, just another one (of many) with the same DDR issue in that bay.

Yet another 73D with that thing over in the left bays.

They probably came from the same die. Die gouges/dents can be found on multiple coins struck by the same die.

No surf board on this one. And the left bays stuff is a tad farther left. Do me a big favor and find this on some of your nice examples of 1973D and figure out what it is :)

Hey look! The non existent variety die snuck in under the cover of darkness and struck another one!! I need you guys with nice examples to work on this and figure out what it is. Please?
