try a local library. The latest is usually in reference section, but the older copies often circulate. Same for Scott tam catalogs.
I buy new world coin catalogs every 2 years to see the value of my coins. only the 1901-2000 and the 2001-present. my 17th, 18th, 19th century world coin catalogs are mostly used as reference books.
Here you go http://www.hamiltonbook.com/products/search?q=coins&cat_id=&find=Find+» can't beat these prices and shipping is cheap too! I just bought the 2012 1901-2000 for 9.75 delivered on amazon, there really is no reason someone would need the current edition, as the prices aren't reliable even in the newest one.
Some of those books are the same editions that the coin supply houses are selling full price. Plus as soon as they are printed the prices in price guides are obsolete. And they are suggested prices. you will only get what somebody wants to pay. No matter what the "price guide said!"
Which countries have given you trouble because they are in the 2014 edition and not one 2 years older and 80%+ cheaper.
So do the new ones, just not the same countries. That's become the problem with the Krause catalogs there are SO many errors and deletions in them. They are constantly leaving things out by accident and dropping images and sub-types and varieties. This is one reason why I'm glad I have all my back issues. I frequently have to go back to older issues to find pictures, details and varieties that are no longer in the current book. I would dearly love to see Whitman buy the Krause Publications numismatic books from F&M Publications. They would actually spend some money on it and add some staff to end all these errors. (The Krause numismatic publications are just a very small part of F&M publications (so they aren't interested in spending that much money on it) but it would be a major addition to Whitman publications. If it keeps going the way it has been someone is eventually going to do their own world coin catalogs and take the market away from Krause.
Get the pdf and put it in a android or apple phone or buy a cheap ereader for like $40. Or better yet take the $200 and get a netbook to sit in your work area. All these are way more portable then alll the books. A cheap android tablet will work as well. The best thing to do if they are for sale yet is to get the new acer windows 8 tablet which is only $200. I have a android phone a netbook 2 laptops aand a android tablet that do what yow want for me and work nicely my next text gadget will ne the windows 8 tablet. Heck i even habe android on my tv. Plus 2 pc towers
@ Detecto, you could of course, can request that the book be sent to you from the ANA library since you are already an ANA member. All you have to do is pay shipping. Might be the most economical way of doing it. Or if you are in a pinch, you could ask someone like myself who has all the books in hand to look something up for you. I would not recommend buying the books unless you plan on building a numismatic library. I bought mine after looking around for a while and got them all under $20. I use them for helping fellow collectors to find coins of interest.
