This coin reeks of originality, it's just the classic branch mint LDS and the dies were also spaced too far apart. They were trying everything possible to meet their production demands by stretching out die use since they relied on Philly for them.
If I was the grader, I'd call this coin 64BN. But I prefer to grade by the number of hits and distractions over the TPG's who like luster and eye appeal. I admit, I'm nervous about taking a big hit on this one. I've never dropped out of the top 10 and I was close to it just a couple of weeks ago. This would be hanging over me until I get to the lucky "drop a worst score" time came. The top 10 is separated by almost nothing!
Quite a spread here , can't wait to see the answer . Hey Dick if it's not 63 , could you take out a magic marker and make it a 63 .
I will start of by saying that it is not quite as bad as my pictures make it look. Every detail is present (including all the wheat line), but they are weak. I have no idea what is behind/under the bust. It is black and very faint in hand. The coin has no wear to me and therefore is not AU. It is virtually nick free and still has some luster. The strike is uhm, well..... However, strike counts little or nothing until you get to 64 or 65. So its biggest distraction would be the luster. Personally, I would give it a 62 but that is because I count strike more than they do. Knowing that strike does not count, that would be a 63.
