I recently received a couple boxes of coins that had been in a fire about 20 years ago. About half of the coins are mutilated and stuck together but there are several that seem ok apart from the fact they got charcoaled Yesterday I found a 1915S Panama Pacific dollar gold coin and a 1909D $5 gold coin. Surprisingly the detail on the coins are still really good. The coins were never circulated but they have been sitting in a cardboard box in a garage since the fire. I haven't tried to clean them at all because I don't know if I should. Im wondering if anyone would know if they still have any value or not, and if so what should I do with them? Should they be cleaned?
Send them off to NCS. They can work miracles on coins heavily damaged in fires and floods. If nothing else, they are still worth their weight in gold.
don't bother, they are fakes even after 200 years under water gold still looks like gold. which these ain't
I do not have a membership or dealer. Im not sure what underwater gold is but i didnt even know these were gold till i googled them. There are litterally thousands of coins, some melted to on another, and they all look black or gray because of the fire. I havent even attempted to clean them. These coins belonged to a family member who was a serious collector. Heres a picture i took the other day when i pulled them out of the box.
The ones that melted have no value now. Sorry if ya send them all in to NCS it will cost ya a fortune. but the ones that are not melted could be cleaned up from the damage. Pick out the ones after you research that seem like a valueable one, and send them out to NCS.
