ANCIENT: M. CIPIUS

    New addition to my roman republics. Some reason its one of my smallest ones in diameter even though its a denarius. Bit tough to get a pic of with an iphone:confused:

    Thanks, some reason I am attracted to these kind of hoard patina type republics.

    that's a cool coin...is that a countermark on the obverse?

    A fair question is where to draw the line between the term countermark and banker's mark. I'd call this a banker's mark but i\that term is probably wrong since the person that applied it was just as likely a merchant or private citizen as a banker. I generally reserve countermark for government marks but really do not know how we are to prove which marks belong in which list. Countermarks are usually larger or fancier but still the terms overlap.
