It's not often I see a story on currency in my local paper -- but here's a nice one that appeared in today's Metro section: http://www.oregonlive.com/milwaukie/index.ssf/2013/07/post_24.html
I see people posting short snorters and have wondered if one has ever been reunited with a signer - that is one very very cool story. The Greatest Generation is getting rather scarce nowadays and it is always nice to hear about one of them being found and reunited with someone or something from their heroic past.
Excellent! Had a $1 1934A SC come in the other day. Tried using Google to get some info on signatures, but to no avail. Every time I get one, I always punch in whatever signatures are legible.
That was such a heartwarming story. I couldn't believe there's someone so thoughtful that can do such a thing. I am glad he was rejoined with his bill, I bet his buddies legacy will live within it.
I didn't realize that ancestry.com could be used for stuff like this, and wasn't aware of fold3.com. Thanks for the info! I'll check it out tomorrow if I have some down-time in the shop.
I use ancestry.com primarily for family research, but it also doubles over for researching historical figures, signers of currency etc.
