Is this a good deal? Would someone buy this?

I've been debating on whether or not to get into paper money, as it has been an interest (although not as much as coins are) since I purchased a large collection that had many paper notes with it.

I found this post on craigslist via a search of my state on Searchtempest. http://spokane.craigslist.org/clt/3961342446.html

My question is, would any of you, who presumably know a lot more about paper money that I do, spend $300 for this collection. I have exchanged e-mails and the guy and he would be willing to ship them to me without charge, so now I'm just trying to decide whether or not I should go for it!

Hmmm this one is tricky thier are nice bills but the issue is a lot of the german bills are very common because of inflation during the period and many in that shape are worth .75 or less still to this day !!! then you have the us silver certifacates they are only worth 2-3 dollars or for the the fives between 5-7 the issue is basically it is a lot of common stuff but cool stuff my best advice if you are willing to spend that kind of money !! go threw and look at each bill price it and then once you have priced them all make your decision !!! the biggest misconception is that a big lot means good stuff not always !!! Good luck if you need any help shoot me a p.m !!

Is $300 alot of money to you? If not, 200 notes overall seems like a way to get familiar with world currency and would provide alot of enjoyment learning about them and researching what they are, etc. If it is, then it might be better to target that $300 to get fewer, nicer notes. You could get a Black Eagle, a large $10 Gold Certificate, a large 1923 Silver Certificate, and maybe a common small national for $300 if you shop right.

For instance, I got this for $300:

Personally I prefer those to a pile of common unremarkable foreign notes. But there are those that would even say to not get those 4 in collectible grade, but rather just get ONE really nice one. $300 would get you a hella nice Black Eagle note. So, consider what you will prefer - alot of cheap notes, a few notes of a design you really like, or the best single note you can afford.

MEC's advice is sound. Large size notes like these hold their value well and can be resold easily, if you later decide to part with them.

Devil's advocate: True, but it's also wise for a relative newbie to start with smaller purchases. You don't want to spend $300 on one note unless you're experienced enough to know the difference between a $300 note and a $75 note with a $300 pricetag on it.

Very true. Diligent research is always advised.

Sometimes the best knowledge comes from making an informed decision, and the subsequent realization of a mistake made. I hate making costly errors, but I've learned from each one I've made.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will hold off and save for some nicer U.S. notes.

    Cheers!
