this thread is for you to post your first coin(s) Mine is a 1969D 40% Kennedy Half i found when i was 6
My first coin bought Feb 2012 in Australia. Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek 1894 bronze Penny mintage 10,000. This coin made me a collector.
Good topic and nice penny, I love those old coppers. Mine was a childhood "gift" from a friend who was a real "coin nut" to him every coin was a treasure but this one was "special". It started my collection many years ago and restarted it again about 2 years ago.
First coin I consider to be part of my collection is an 1864 IHC that I found, get this, in Golden Gate Park. I was at soccer practice around age 11, kicked up a pile of dirt in my cleats, felt something heavy hit my shoe, and sawsoke small metal disk go flying. I ran over to pick it up, and what the heck...it was an IHC! And the copper/nickel type to boot! That was 8 years ago, and it sat in my drawer, forgotten until about 3 years ago when I seriously got into collecting.
I don't remember because my brother stole my entire coin collection when I went to college and I never saw them again.
First one I distinctly remember was a 1817 15 stars large cent no idea whatever happened to it one of my prizes as a kid was a 1800 over 79 large cent that dissapeared when we moved when I was 12
1931 S buff nickel....found in circulation and found out it was a rarer one and got hooked. It was fate.
My grandpappy gave us a Morgan silver dollar on our birthday, had 7 when he passed. I just started adding different coins (1960-1968)...pause, married with children, then 1999 to now. I liked it better in the early '60s, you could get nice silver coins for face value. You could get a coke and candy bar for 21 cents, tax included. Gas less than 30 cents per gallon.
My younger brother stole my car for a night when I went to first year uni and crashed it. I did beat the crap him!
I found this when I was going through a jar of change my parents had set aside 20+ years ago. Prior to then, this was the oldest coin I had seen. I kept it and it basically restarted my interest in collecting and put me on the path to becoming a regular collector.
