Hey cointalk, I found this 1990 P nickel which I believe it's a clipped planchet. Do you guys think so? I am starting to have doubts about it.
looks like some damage. but I would wait for someone more experienced to reply before you take my word for it. I am prone to make mistakes. -coingeek12
Could have been caused a number of ways, but the fact remains that the folded metal (if that's what it is, it also has a "sheared" appearance )indicates that the coin was damaged after it left the mint.
Fact is, it's damage to the coin AFTER it left the mint. How it happened is a question that cannot be answered.
FWIW If you're going to use 2x2's with regular staples like those shown, it would be best to flatten them with a pair of pliers. The staple can easily damage a coin in another 2x2 if it slides across the mylar-covered opening. You might want to buy a flat-cinch stapler if you use a lot of 2x2's for your coins. They aren't that expensive, and you can get them at most any office supple store. Chris
I think it will be fine with pliers, but the flat-cinch stapler sounds mighty fine! Well unfortunately this little coin of mine doesn't deserve one now
I knew it all along, I was waiting for you to finally confess! It is one heck of tasty nickel, I award you another tasty nickel for confessing..
