Hello...I am looking for maybe some help and info...... I would like to know if anyone knows of any Nickle, dime, halves, or dollars that are made with wrong dies, transitional dies, or mid-year design die change on business strike coins? First some definitions..... WRONG DESIGN DIES: A coin where the dies that struck the coin were not intended to have been used together on that coin by the Mint. Example: A half dollar with a business strike obverse die and a proof reverse die. TRANSITIONAL DESIGN DIES: A coin struck with a die the Mint intended for use before or after the year that coin that was struck. Example: An 1859 obverse die with an 1860 reverse die on a cent. MID-YEAR DESIGN DIE CHANGE: A denomination that in the same year had different designs that the mint intended for use. Example: The five designs of state quarters that were produced each year. what I have listed is... 1939 P Proof reverse of 1940 AKA strong steps nickels 1969 P Proof reverse AKA reverse of 1968 dime 1970 P Proof reverse AKA reverse of 1968 dime 1970 D Proof reverse AKA reverse of 1968 dime 1958 Proof style reverse AKA Type 2 half 1959 Proof style reverse AKA Type 2 half 1959 Double Die Reverse with the Type 1 and Type 2 reverse AKA Type 3 half 1972 P Type 1 AKA low relief AKA RDV-001 dollar 1972 P Type 2 AKA high relief AKA RDV-002 dollar 1972 P Type 3 AKA modified high relief AKA RDV-003 dollar Anyone have anything else????
looks like you have most of them ...looks like there might be a few more on Variety Vista website http://varietyvista.com/Design Varieties.htm
1964 silver quarters with the C rev intended for use on the clad coins The 1992 P and D CAM cents made using rev dies not intended for use until 1993 the 1998, 99, and 2000 WAM cents business strikes made using dies hubbed from proof design hubs. 1998 S proof cents made with the CAM dies intended for business strikes the 1999 W 1/10 and 1/25 oz bullion coins made with unpolished Proof obv dies 1840 small letter half dollar which used a Seated obv with a Capped bust Rev The 2008 W rev of 2007 ASE's The 1859 and 60 half dime and dime with the obv of 1859 and rev of 1860 (But these were probably fantasies deliberatly made to sell.) I don't know if you would count the early bust dimes made using Quarter Eagle rev dies. That was just a matter of die conservation. There are transitional coins in the trade dollar series Possibly the 1861-S Paquet reverse double eagle (design was approved and dies shipped, then rejected but the information didn't get to San Francisco in time.) I'm not sure what you would call the 1982 nickels. Part way through the year they redid the master hubs and the 1982 nickels com with I think 12 different pairings of old and new hubs, four from each mint old/old, old/new, new/old and new/new There are probably more.
looks like you missed the 1988 cent with 1989 reverse. i have been watching out for these while roll searching and so far have come up with none.
Thanks so far.... I did say nickel, dime, half, and dollar...I also did say business strike coins...the thing I left out.... 20th century... only 20th century...that way I don't need the 2000 quarter/dollar mules..... or the 18/19 century stuff.... but I now have more to look at... the 1982 nickles....NEVER KNEW..... thinking new/new and old/old.....mid year and new/old or old/new...... wrong die... I will be looking into those....thanks... not listed by me...as they are cent or quarters... 1988 P and D cent reverse of 1989 1992 P and D cent reverse of 1993 1998 to 2000 P wide am proof reverse 1956 to 1964 type B reverse quarters 1964 D reverse of 1965 quarter I have all of these except for the 1992 P cent reverse of 1993
