all sorts of stuff going on with the reverse, jupiter, captive, eagle, victory, a X over iii (supposted to be a 12 "mu"....but...but i can't tell that on any of thse coins....anyone know what this is for?). i was going to clean it, but the sandy/dark patina looks pretty good, i'm going to leave it as is.

The XIIS stands for 12 1/2 denarii of account value of the coin. It was issued when Licinius revalued the standard size coin from 25 to 12 1/2. That last letter is not on our keboards but looks somewhere between a gamma and the straighter forms of stigma but it just means a half. On mine, it looks a little more like a gamma but there is a bit of variety in these.

Relating to another thread: Check out the Licinius that made the Berk 100 list. I might have picked one of the father and son dual portraits but the one he chose is special. I'm on the road and don't have Berk with me so I can't give the number. Ohio today, Indiana tomorrow.
