Yes, but the real question is, if that happened would Bill get a gold coin being the "first husband?" :thumb:

What are they going to do with Thomas Jefferson.
His wife died before he became president and he had no official "First Lady".
    (Mistresses and slaves don't count).

Just because she was dead that dosen't mean that she didn't exist.

Also: James Buchanan (April 23, 1791 – June 1, 1868) was the 15th president of the United States (1857–1861). He was the only bachelor president and the only resident of Pennsylvania to hold the office of President.
For his non- wife they are using a figure of Liberty, in place of a wife.
The same for Jerrerson, or perhaps a picture of one of his female slaves!!

This would be funny, imagine them using a picture of Sally Hemings!!!!

"In October, 1802, while he was president, the story was published in the newspapers that Thomas Jefferson, whose wife had died in 1782, was keeping his wife's slave half-sister, Sally Hemings, as a concubine and was producing children from her. Jefferson, who lived for 44 years after the death of his wife and who never remarried, never denied the story, but he never admitted it either. Sally Hemings was at his bedside when he died. All five children of Sally Hemings were freed by Thomas Jefferson either before his death or in his will. Thomas Jefferson made provisions for Sally Hemings in his will. These were almost the only slaves which Thomas Jefferson ever freed."

I thought the First Lady designs weren't being released until the 19th.

Not likely. She will have to have been dead for two years before her turn rolls around. Like wise Bill will have to have been dead for two years before his turn on the President coin rolls around for Hillery to get her First Lady coin. So there is a pretty fair chance that she won't get to be on either one.

For three of the four presidents that did not have a wife while they were in office the FL coin will have a representation of Liberty based upon one of the ones in use during his term of office. For Thomas Jefferson it will be based on the Draped Bust design.

For the last of the four they are going to put a portrait of a woman sufferagette (whose name escapes me at the moment, Alice Paul?) for absolutely no good reason whatsoever. I believe the only connection is that she was born during his term of office, but of course did nothing of any account until decades later, so it is totally inappropriate for the coin. The other three all show on the reverse events that occured during the presidents term of office, not decades later.

I suppose if one adds former wives, one could add Jane Wyman for Ronald Reagan.

Wait until we get the First Pets® commemoratives featuring Socks the Cat, King Timahoe, Milly, etc.

Ah, so that's why the Mint hasn't updated their website. The image I posted had been leaked to the AP, apparently. Thank you for the correction.

According to this article, she was dead thus she never existed.

"Thomas Jefferson's wife died before he became president so the gold coin for his administration will feature a symbolic representation of Lady Liberty that appeared on a half-cent coin during the time Jefferson was president.

Jefferson was one of five presidents who were not married during their time in the White House."

Personally, I think this is a bad idea. The president is not just an elected office. The person elected is the face of the nation. The First Lady (*or husband) is just along for the ride and another liability the tax-paying public has to foot the bill for.

Next we'll be seeing the First Dog or Cat. How about great Vice Presidents, Senators, or Secretary of States. Much better choices in my opinion. The planes used as Air Force One come to mind also.

Jane was never first Lady. Only the women that were married to the President during his term in office get a coin.
