I may have jumped the gun by purchasing this coin on eBay, in my rush to acquire an Austrian silver coin with a nice design. It appears to have some scratches on the obverse and reverse, but I'm not sure if they are enough to give the coin a details grade. So what grade would you give this coin?
if it was bought from the mint, and has never been traded for goods or services it is UNC. no mater how you look at it.
The issue is I got it from eBay rather than the mint, so I lean toward the scratches caused by mishandling. I just don't know if they are harsh enough to take away an MS grade.
if the coin is UNC. it means it was never traded for goods or services. what you want to know is a totally diferent animal altogether. there is a big diference on wether or not a coin is UNC./non UNC. vs. MS/non MS. I would go back and edit your first post. make things a little clearer and you might get some better answers.
definitely not true. I can buy a mint set from the mint and put one of the coins in my pocket. I never spend it but in a very short time it will no longer pass as an uncirculated coin. On the other hand I can get a roll of circulated cents from the bank and find a 1972 cent that looks like it has never circulated. When grading a coin "Uncirculated" is that the coin appears to be the same as when iot left the mint.
k, thanks for that clarification. I was always told UNC. meant it ways never traded for goods or services.
I thought that the original post was more than clear enough, no need to go back and tell them to edit it. You have a somewhat incorrect definition of what "uncirculated" means. It mainly pertains to the condition of the coin, as "uncirculated" coins will not show the wear that circulated coins do.
hmm. well, my apologize jolumoga. I have always thought (and been told) that unc. meant no one has put it in circulation before.
Do tell. Who has "always" told you? You've been here long enough, so not for one second should anyone believe this. His post was perfectly clear. The only issue here is that someone should be reading more and posting less. Jolumoga, It clearly has some issues. Was it described as and/or did you pay for a nice piece, or was it priced accordingly?
You know what, I never actually realized that you could see UNC as something else rather then just a grade "fluffer". You see all the time in those stupid coin ads " Premium BU MS UNC COINS!!!".
"It clearly has some issues. Was it described as and/or did you pay for a nice piece, or was it priced accordingly?" It is my fault for not scrutinizing the pics well before I bought, even though it was described as BU. I may resell it at some point. It's not worth sending it back over $16. Oh well, we all make mistakes!
some more frequent than others *cough* me *cough* I just cant help jumping into wishing wells to look at the coins... they're. just. so. shiny.
