Hello I just got this coin . Is it a error coin ? and what kind of error is it ? this coin look like brass ,look at the ear . Isn't copper and zine make brass ? or copper and nickel ?Well if you could tell me a little about error coins and where I can get it look at. Thank you for your time. Mr. Rosario
Collected or stored from circulation and then simply recirculated again which caused wear on the high points of the coin. Not an error. And yes, Brass is an alloy made of Copper and Zinc.
Looks like there might be a die crack through the ear in the hair, and the date and mint show strong Mechanical Doubling Damage.
It's hard to see but it really look like it was melt when it got stamp there like little melt balls like was on the stamp die ,like the ear and the like the 1969 s . I try to get a real good picture . could something got on the stamp die when it was stamped ? all so the R and Y mechanical doubling to. Is there any value in a coin that have strong mechanical doubling ? Thank you
Mechanical doubling usually isn't collectable. The area of the nose was not "melted" when the coin was struck, it is not consistent with any error. Since the coin is circulated, that just furthers the evidence that it is damage. If the coin was uncirculated then it MAY be a different story, but it is not. Sorry, it is PMD.
