Elegant & classy statement......what else could you possibly want plastered on your slab besides eBay & APMEX??? Maybe a "WOW" sticker?
i wonder how much it cost ebay/apmex to get pcgs to do this. your coins value will so skyrocket since every one know you got it from the best coin store in the world ebay
I think it is clever marketing to capture the "bidiots". Since most collectors know the vast majority of ASE are 69 or 70, so by grading them 69, seldom can anyone complain. To me this is private labeling by Apmex as they " , PCGS seems to be just selling their label and if complaints come in , Apmex is responsible for settling complaints. I wouldn't pay any premium at all for a PCGS 69 Bullion coin ASE over any raw ASE. IMO.
The TPGs have been doing similar things for some time now. Say you had a bunch of coins you wanted to get graded and then sell. You could send them in for grading and have all of the slab labels printed saying - The Enochian Collection, and then the grade. This is just another iteration of that, only it's 2 companies doing it instead of an individual.
You have to send in 100 or more at once for TPG to do this though. At least that's what I was told. Really that's a big part of why I hold out on sending to TPG myself. I hope that is a one time hurdle to jump and that once i have done the initial group a single coin could be sent in at a later date and still be labeled as part of "The SnV Collection" since it will already be in their system.
Very clever. They've been labeling Silver Eagles based on what Mint they came from even though they don't have a mint mark, and they've labeled them based on which Mint packaging they come in (e.g. regular burnished eagle packaging versus uncirculated dollar coin sets). And now the "serious" collector will need to have each one with a label saying who sold it. For the burnished eagle alone there could be dozens of label designations to get.
Actually, the serious collector knows enough about the coin and how to grade it, that no holder is needed at all.
I bought one. One of my goals is to have at least one Silver Eagle in every slab/label type that PCGS has produced. It may seem silly to some but, IMO, its no sillier than collecting the entire series in PCGS 69 grades, PCGS 70 grades or First Strike slabs.
Actually, I think you have to be a high volume PCGS Authorized Dealer to get these "special" slab labels. ApMex certainly qualifies since they probably do $250,000 or more a year in slabbing fees alone.
But a very old idea. ICG was doing this 12 or 13 years ago. And of course they were widely and severely criticized for it, especially by the fans of PCGS, because they were just an upstart company and how dare they do such a thing ! Of course in the following years PCGS, and NGC, copied many things that ICG did long before them. But because they were PCGS, well that just made it OK
