I am going to inherit this coin along with a bunch of other older coins (hopefully a long time from now), and I just wanted to share it because it is so beautiful.
It's a nice coin. There is an S Mintmark showing on it, but still looks AU. I sold one in that condition close for about $35.00 on eBay a few weeks ago.
The high spots look heavily dinged on the obverse which one would not necessarily expect on a coin with such luster. I agree that it just doesn't look right.
