    Hello all,
I have a 1985 D that has what appears to be a double on the mint mark. Is this a common or rare event?

Sorry, your coin shows plating issues, it is not an RPM.
    Keep up the hunt!

Post-1982 cents are comprised of a zinc core with a very thin copper plating. Sometimes this plating can split, get pushed, warp, bubble, etc. The plating area around the mintmark split, giving the appearance of a secondary mintmark. It is very common.
