It is common, and welcome. No, it is not rare at all, and the seller is taking advantage of a person that doesn't know the difference. Stay away.

The unfortunate thing is that on EBay a person can say most anything he wants about the item he is selling. What we often see here is that there are those posting coins on EBay that don’t know the hobby….. Now I am not an error or variety guy. I am an old coin guy, but I think I been around the block enough to say with some level of certainty that is simply a worn die. Nothing at all appealing or rare about that coin….. Lesson #1 in coin collecting…. If you don’t know, come here and ask before you place a bid. We won’t steer you wrong.

Oh for sure I am that is so wrong. I try to see if there are coins out there that look like mine. I have trouble with Liberty and the columns. Thank you so much for replying.

Oh trust me I am not ever going to bid on Ebay. I use it for reference only. I think the first time newbie only get 10 posts for the first time and after once a week. I want make sure I should not be saving them. I trust all of you guys with the information. That is so sad though they were asking almost $400.00.

Ha! I just went to EBay and did a search for 1964 cent with “L” on edge…. There are page after page of listings! Ha! If the coin is so rare, why are there so many listings?…… It is funny in one aspect but these type people give our hobby a black eye.

Wow that is bad I just saw the one and could not believe that. Greedy people I think if it was a couple of bucks it would not have been so bad.

Ebay is like here there are people who think they can get rich off their change. I don't buy error coins so I don't know anything about that. I call them change millionaires.

Never bid on Ebay? Why? There are actually rare coins for sale on Ebay that are very cheap. I bought a quarter for $5, sold it on Ebay for $4,500. Don’t take my word for it, nor the word of some goof ball seller. I’d suggest learn first, ask questions second, bid later. There are great books depending on your interests. I’ve found hundreds of rare coins on Ebay over the years, sold by Coin dealers that have no idea what they’re doing. Some were / are finest known examples. Knowledge is key.

I buy on Ebay too. I have been buying graded MS64 FBL Franklins lately. I bought them for what they go for on auction without the snipers. I don't buy change from the change millionaires.

It catches up with them. It’s not right and they know it. Greed will get them no where! In every hobby or lines of buying, people really have to research and the people that sell as well! I am learning that for sure in the coin world.

I just found one of those "rare" 1964-D error listings on eBay for $3 postpaid! Perhaps you should buy it and offer it at the bargain price of $20. Better yet, get an "unsearched" bag of Memorial cents and see how many you can find. I'll bet it's a bunch.

I disagree with your comment that eBay is like George Santos. I think there's lots of good, legitimate stuff on eBay, and lots of people/coin dealers who are quite reputable in their sales. I think the better comparison is with other politicians, many of whom are like Santos, although perhaps not to the same degree. Just my thoughts, for what they're worth.

Yeah, I was on ebay today and saw this. A totally beat up circulated penny that's been recently cleaned. A real dandy! If the seller offered free shipping, I'd almost consider it.....Not!

Check out the other coins this particular seller has for sale on ebay.
