    Hey cointalk,
I was recently given a japanese 5000 yen note in CU by my grandmother. What's it worth? and because i don't have a plastic currency sleeve on me now, what's the best was to preserve its CU- ness?( without a plastic sleeve)

It's worth about $50. I don't know really a way to preserve it without using a sleeve but you could use a plastic bag.

    Something to consider.

They are brand new notes made for circulation so they will not appreciate above $50 in value in your lifetime. The $50 value quoted above is just the exchange rate.

Higuchi Ichiyo(1872-1896) was the pen name of Higuchi Natsu, she assumed a pen name so that she could continue to write in a man's world and have her works published. Her works were critically acclaimed, and memorable 110 years after her untimely demise in 1896. Her works are considered the first significant work by a female in Japanese literature, and in 2004 she was finally recognised with the issue of this 5,000 yen note. This note has many security features. The depiction of Higuchi Ichiyo represents only the third time in Japanese history that a woman has been depicted on a banknote, the first was in 1881 more recently a 2,000 yen note was issued with Murasaki Shikibu in 2000.

I must say that it is so great to see it here and Japanese yen is so short nowadays to display and it cannot be easily displayed because of shortage and thanks for showing it here.
