Can you still find Eisenhower $1 coins in change?

found one that i did not know till i got an old safe opened. It was '71 kind of beat up. A girl that worked at the quick stopped wanted it so i gave it to her for a buck and a cup of coffee. She was so happy to get it but to me it was a $1 coin i did not want. It was nice to see how much she liked it and to me that was the true value of this coin.

One day a couple of years ago, my wife called me from work and asked if I wanted some old large dollar coins. Evidently someone paid for their purchase with 10 nice XF/AU Ikes.

 

I was recently given the keys to the safety deposit box (so to speak). My grandfather mostly collected proof sets for the grandkids, but among the mostly low-value proof sets was small assortment of Ike's and a roll (circulated). Nothing all that exciting (though still fun). That's as close to getting one in I've gotten in many, many years.

 

I got one in change a couple of months ago.......from my coin dealer:smile She gives me something special every time I buy something with cash.

 

Nice, at a coin show last month I got a well worn silver certificate, only coin dealers would do that.

 

Actually SBA and Sacs do work in most vending machines.

Okay guys, here are the pictures of the ones I got from the bank. And I was wrong, they are'nt all proofs, 5 of them are, 3 of them are 40% silver, and the rest are 1971 clads. Fifteen in all. Not bad for face value though.

 

NICK66,that is a fine collection of Eisenhower $1 coins.I can guess that the 3 in the bottom right hand corner are silver Proofs,as the Proof finish does not show up well on cupro-nickel.Which of the others are Proofs?

Aidan, all 5 on the bottom are proofs believe it or not. They are not in perfect condition. The 3 above it are S mints, silver. Sorry for the poor photo, I can't get the lighting right and the flash totally ruins them.

 

sac and Sba will work in vending machines but i ve never been able to find one that would take Ikes or even half dollars.
