Hey, wondering if anyone knew anything about these bills. I don't know anything about paper money, but these are definitely more interesting than my silver certificates. Value? Real or fake? Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Rosie
Definitely not my area of expertise, but I have heard that there are many times more replicas of confederate currency than were ever actually printed, let alone the number of surviving originals. Without pictures, pictures, pictures the only thing anyone - including the experts - could do is say "Statistically they are more likely to be fakes than real, but there are real ones out there."
The $20 appaers REAL. I have a pretty nice little collection of Confed paper notes. Thaey have become very collectable the past few years although you can find only very few SUPER HIGH GRADE NOTES. The prize Confed note in my collectionis a $100 note with as a remember only one fold on a corner all the others are G to XF. Id like to see the $5 US NOTE in person. Look pretty nice. Cant say that i can tell from the scan if its REAL, But based on the PICTURES I would say yes. Its not hard to find that era of paper money in better condition then that. I have a few completely NEW UNC notes from the same era as that $5. The five is worth between 230 to 400 or more ,cant read whos signed it. The confed $20 I would say sells for 30 to 45 each in that condition. Nice find how did you get them?
oh no... I didn't think the $5 was confederate (it says series 0f 1907), just posted within the same. Thanks though!
My father gave me my recently departed Great-Uncle's shoebox of coins. I also got my shoebox of coins that I collected when I was a kid. Just looking through it all, it's a pretty neat little collection. The confederate bill and the $5 were not a part of my original collection, so they must be my Uncle's. I wish I could ask him where he got them, but again, not with us anymore.
Rosie, that Confederate States of America $20 is real.If it is the 1864 issue, then it is actually quite a common note. That U.S $5 note is very nice. Aidan.
Heres mine. Purchased in Atlanta in 1982 for $5. Hard to tell for sure but the signatures look differant.
Dockwalliper, all banknotes of the Confederate States of America were all signed by hand, which is why you will find different signature varieties.Yours was a very good find for US$5.I paid around NZ$10 for my one, which I will be offloading on eBay. Aidan.
Dockwalliper, your bill is very nice. I looked up what you were talking about, Aidan, very interesting. Even back then, "celebrities" couldn't keep up with signing every autograph (or bill for that matter!) I'm just getting back in to collecting, so this is all very fun and fascinating for me. Thanks for the replies! -Rosie

Hey Silas. Mind if I ask where you got that $20 confecerate note? Looks exactly like one I sold a few weeks ago. Anyway go to this website: http://home.earthlink.net/~icepick119/ Its called Stonewalls Civil War Currency. This guy has all the REAL Confederate serial numbers vs the fake ones. It a real good site! HAPPY NEW YEAR! ps This was mine...ok so its not the same!
Erwizard- I got it from my late great-uncle. I have no clue where he originally got it, but I know he had it for years. I checked out that website, pretty cool, but unfortunately, I can't read my serial number, even under magnification.
