just love this note.... people ask if I'm rich when i show it 2 them + Zimbabwe was clever enough not to slap on a pic of a dead president on it and call it money.
Well, they put some rocks on their notes and called that money. At least they were clever enough to stop using Zimbabwe Dollars altogether a few years ago. What I find ironic about the depicted formation is that such balancing rocks are, surprise, symbols of a "perfectly balanced state". Hmm, Zimbabwe is not exactly in such a situation ... (PS - Moved this to "Paper Money".) Christian
I picked one of these up on Ebay several months ago. From what I have read about the Zimbabwe hyperinflation, prices were doubling about every 24 hours, and public transportation was more expensive during the evening commute than in the morning. It's pretty sad when a country has to give up on issuing its own currency. I also have some Turkish lira notes denominated in millions that I kept from our honeymoon several years ago. I remember changing a 10 dollar bill at the airport and getting 14 million lira. That seemed like a lot, but 100 trillion is just ridiculous...
We happened to be in Zimbabwe in early 2005, just before the last round of inflation that effectively shut down both their currency and tourism. Picked up many agro notes and some coins (!), all in great condition. We were close to a casino and dropped in for some local currency. They were actually giving away the coins and small notes. Yup, a casino, not a bank. Irony intended .....
Now if only us Americans can learn the lesson of Wiemar and Zimbabwe before there is absolutely nothing left. 96% loss in purchasing power since 1913, 99.5% is breaking point.
