Okay, now are you a minor? I assume these "kids" are so it's a fair question.

If you're correct and he took advantage he should be ashamed and go back and at least share a little of the profit. It happens all the time and if you watch Road Show you'd see it often. Just this week I saw a huge jug that was ugly as all get out and the woman paid 50 dollars at a garage sale. She sold the smaller one for 52.50 and brought the big one to the show. It was worth 50,000 dollars or more. The moral of the story is to really try hard to check out all your ugly junk before you sell it.

I am sorry, but what? Are you trying to say that you were a minor but are no longer?

my question is.. WHY CAN'T I EVER COME ACROSS SOMETHING LIKE THIS?! like really! you are SO lucky.. grr :(:D and before you say "you are such a bad person to want to scam people like that" to me, i am not one of those people that would buy something that cheap and then sell it to make a quick buck, morgans are my favorite coin so they would be in my collection indefinitely

I think this is the attitude of way too many people. If you knowingly purchase something that is worth $300 for $5 then that is not right. You should do what the American Pickers do and tell them that it is worth a lot more than that and you'll give them $xxx amount of dollars. You can still get a great deal and at least give them what they would get from a dealer. Many dealers offer around 50% and still make a nice profit. The difference is that the dealer has overhead and you don't.

That doesn't matter. On this thread I only wanted to know what this is worth and ya'll are arguing with me because I got a deal. THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF THIS THREAD THE POINT IS WHAT YOU BELIEVE THE VALUE OF THIS Morgan Silver Dollar Set IS WORTH!

You said you have the Red Book which will give you a rough idea of the value depending on the condition. PM me if you want to double your money. o_O

The really look terrible to me. However, I'm a nice guy and I'll still pay you double what you paid for them. :D

Seriously, you must have a dealer nearby that will make you an offer and most likely give you a conservative grade. Take your coins to a dealer and ask them what they will offer you for the coins. That will give you a base price for these coins and then you can put them on eBay or somewhere else and sell them for 30 to 50% higher I would think. No one here can give you an accurate grade without having the coin in hand or having exceptionally good photographs.

You can check PCGS for their online photo grade page. It gives examples of your specific coin and then shows photos of the different grades.

and the other thing is, I am only 15 so I only have like $15-20 each week for the different flea markets and stuff we go to, so if I can get something that I really want for within my price range, I will, because I NEVER get Morgans because of how expensive they are, so if someone wanted $5 for a morgan, I would have to get it because I NEVER have an opportunity to get one otherwise

If you younger collectors were really sophisticated and knew the approximate value of a coin and you purchased it from someone who knows nothing about the value for a very small amount that would be wrong. In your case I don't think you were too sure about the value, otherwise you wouldn't be here asking about it. There is nothing wrong with making a great deal or getting a bargain. The wrong part is if you know something is worth $100 and you know the person doesn't know what they have then you should at least tell them you'll pay more than they are asking because you feel it is worth more. That being said, most adults would grab it and run. It happens all the time and many antique and coin dealers take huge advantage of people who don't know what they have. Perhaps the lesson here is to use your head and try to find out what it is you have before putting it out on the tag sale table. Some stuff that might look like junk may be very valuable. I collect art deco bookends and each pair is worth anywhere from $100 to $500. If you don't know anything about them you might put them in a tag sale for $5. If you had taken a little time and did a google search you would know you had something much more valuable. Coins are extremely easy to search so there isn't much excuse on the sellers part for this kind of bargain basement pricing.

personally, if they wanted $5 for it, and I had any more than $5 I would offer as much money as I had with me. and that is true what you said last digibyte, they can easily look it up and see the value, so it would be partially their fault.

This thread is whatever people make of it, and you've brought any perceived negative responses upon yourself.

What we have here is a hotshot who not only burned a school-chum on metal value (and is proud of doing so), but also is hoping to make a numismatic profit on top of it. Read in between the lines here folks... If he is a big enough boy to take advantage of classmates, he's big enough to learn to evaluate his rips on his own.

he also was in a trade deal with me via pm where he had a au ihc worth around $10 + a free 1909 wheat in g4 i offered him a 1967 sms plus a random silver foriegn coin.
after two days and four pages of messeges trying to figur out what he had to trade

he said he could only take my 1965 sms and 1967 sms and the silver for $15 in trade value .
which was another rip off. he also said he can get the sms sets for the spot price of the half which is only $2.86 right now I cant believe that
