Here is another of my July purchases. It's a Volusian bronze from Antioch, while my only other Volusian is an AR Antoninianus from Serdica. This has a great reverse - something for everyone. Architecture, Tyche, River God, and Ram (stay calm steve). Volusian AE25 OBV: AVTOK K G AFIN GAL OVEND OVOLOCCIANOC CEB, radiate and draped bust right REV: ANTIOXEWN MHTRO KOLWN D-e, SC below, Tyche seated facing within tetrastyle temple, the river-god Orontes swimming beneath her, ram leaping right above Struck at Syria-Antioch, 251-253 AD 25mm SNGCop 295
Sorry Steve. I typed your name wrong. Sometimes my fingers run away without any regard to what I'm thinking.
Cool coin. I'm not into the Roman-Greek Provincials (only have 2 low-grade ones that were given to me), but this is the kind of coin I would want if I ever got the itch for them.
Cool bronze Bing. Funny I have a silver coin of the same emperor. Its in transit from Portugal as I type this. Very nice one.
Wow, fantastic coin ... a Volusian, eh? (I don't have one of that guy, yet) Beautiful tone & hue => great eye appeal => plus, ya got yourself another Tyche "and" a purdy barnyard animal ... yup, that's one hot sheep!!
I also have a Tyche with a jumping sheep, but I don't think it's as nice as your new addition (but it's still a pretty cool coin) ...
jw, you seem to find these cool looking coins, love the reverse, with good details, very nice..Thumbs up...
Bing, that's a tremendous coin. I guess your idea of earth-shattering is different than mine. That coin has everything going for it: scarce ruler, excellent detail, full legends, warm color, and I always appreciate the architectural reverse devices. As you say - something for everyone.
