Any tips on taking pictures of coins?

Without fail, every picture I take (especially of slabbed coins) turns out poor. Either too dark, too much glare, etc. . . Never does the coin any justice.

There was a post on here a while back suggesting that the coin be placed in a milk jug. . . Haven't yet figured out how to get the slab through that small hole.:D

In all seriousness, any tips would be appreciated.

    P.S. I'm a below average novice photographer.

Use the "10 & 2" method. Light sources at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock compared to the coin. Diffuse your lighting using whatever method you prefer depending on how big the bulb is. I use half a ping-pong ball for one of mine.
Here is my setup. Maybe that will help. http://imgur.com/a/498bo

Or use my method - buy from a seller with good pictures. :)
