Well, I took a chance. I am 3 coins away from completing the Barber half set with New Orleans issues. I took a chance with this one today. What do you think it will look like in hand? http://www.ebay.com/itm/350832821739?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I like the look of it a lot. The white balance is clearly off, but the coin looks to be free of massive hairlines.
Ohh...I like it. I like it indeed. A nice, nice problem-free coin with good looks. I think it will look nice in hand, and I think it is a strong VF as well. Terrific pickup!
Small image but you have two weeks to check it out to see if it will pass muster at PCGS. If it's clean could easliy see it in a XF40 holder.
I won't send it to PCGS in that time. it either passes my eye or not. I only submit once a year now, if that at all. I agree with XF40 if it's free of anything major. Sure looks like it has enough meat. Full band, and about 95% top feathers. If it's dark though, PCGS with net it down to 35.
What I meant was to check it closely when you get it and if possilbe get other opinions right away no way to get it to and from PCGS even with epress over priced grading in two weeks.
It looks nice, but you're right about the eBay challenge. I recently purchased an AU two cent piece and when I got it there was a scratch on the obverse dead center.
looks good to me. The only areas I can see having any issues are the hair right of the ribbon where it splits and at about 8 oclock along the rim inside of the reeding. I'm sure its fine though and I'm glad to hear you only have 2 coins left in the set - time to pass on everything that comes up now !!!
I forgot to update this. I ended up sending it back. I was pretty bummed about it, because it had great color, nice detail and it was a really nice coin. Unfortunately, what the pictures don't show, is the cut through the wreath, LIBERTY, and the hair above the forehead. It was distracting enough that I returned it. I hate returning stuff, but felt I needed to on this one.
Lesson learned there is usually a reason for less than adequate images. Not a reason to quite the hunt just be sure they have a return stated in the listing.
