Hello, Wanted to give this one it's own thread hoping maybe anyone could shed a little light on this. Back story goes this item came from an estate sale. Top of the box reads "Best of Breed" while the bottom reads "Lore 10-27-56 G.S.D.C. of La." Far as I can tell this is a winning medal for a dog show from 1956 and the dog's name was Lore. The medal is a lovely golden color with a few marks in the fields and a slight rim ding that may not be evident in the photos. I'm pretty sure the obverse has the name of the breed in German but I don't know what the reverse says. If anyone knows anything about this medal or medals like it, please feel free to chime in. I'm really pleased with this purchase - I have a German Shepherd and if what I infer about where this medal came from, it makes it all the more interesting.
The reverse basically means "For Merit" or the best The initals are for the German Shepherd Dog Club of Louisiana and That is where I would go if I wanted to know more about it. Contacts for the GSDC of La can be found at http://www.akc.org/club_search/inde...ive_tab_row_A=1&active_tab_col_A=1&Fixed_ID=1 If it turns out that is NOT where it is from there is also a German Shepherd Dog Club of Los Angeles, and a German Shepherd Dog Club of Las Vegas
Thanks Conder! I poked around their website a little bit, no records there past 2006 but I'm kicking around the idea of giving them a call. I thought it would be cool to see the dog that won Best of Show.
