If you go on Google and type in liveauctioneers and then type in Borneo you will find a number of allegedly super high grade NGC slabbed British North Borneo and the like coins. Yet if you look at the coin they really don't look the grade you would expect from NGC. OK, this is a new Company, an offshoot of Asia Numismatic Society who sold me an NGC MS65 Rupee that arrived as NNC junk slab. I specifically asked if it was really NGC and they said yes. This was not true. I have asked for the serial numbers so I can check them with NGC and these have not been provided. So my question is, if CT forum members look at the coins and then look at the alleged MS62's and MS64's do they pass muster? Thanks,Marbury
If these are the guys you're talking about - http://www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/26873/page1?rows=20 - they sure look to be NGC and PCGS slabs to me. I looked through 4 or 5 pages and saw nothing but what appear to be genuine slabs. This coin you bought, are you saying that you saw a picture of a coin in slabs like those pictured in that link and then they sent you a coin in an NNC slab ?
Not sure that I saw the specific way the coin was held in the slab but described as NGC. I then asked them to double check the coin was NGC and they confirmed in writing it was NGC. Coin then arrived in NNC slab. Had to pay for crossover and my MS65 turned into a MS63. The Co concerned has now set up some sort of off-shoot so I was concerned that I might get stung again. To be fair they said they'd give me a credit but again nothing in writing. If they look NGC/PCGS that's great.
Well, this is the first one. http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/CertResults.aspx?CertNumber=3305060-001 Slab number is 3305060-001 No price given but genuine. Managed to work out the number by zooming way in.
Spazmodic, I don't get it. See the link I posted above. It is not Chinese coins I am talking about. It is Borneo......ie Malaysia.
Here's the second one http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/CertResults.aspx?CertNumber=3305060-006 Now my eyes hurt.
Noone appears to be listening. GDJMSP identified wrong location. See my link.... http://www.liveauctioneers.com/search?q=borneo
Allyou have to do is click on the link I have posted twice. At bottom of page there is a coin from Borneo which has nothing to do with the coins referred to here. Then you click on the second page and you will see more Borneo coins. Not China.

No it's exactly the same company, but the link I posted was to one of their old auctions, I merely used it as an example. The link you just posted here is to coins they currently have for sale. The coins found at your link are described as being in NGC slabs, and they certainly look like NGC slabs, at least the part you can see does. But I have never seen an NNC slab that uses the edge view prongs, that NGC uses and are visible in the pictures, to hold the coin. So I ask you, the coin you bought, did you look at any picture of it before you bought it ? And if you did, do you have a link to that specific picture ? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out if they deliberately tried to deceive you by posting a picture of 1 coin in an NNC slab while describing the coin as being in an NGC slab. So if you have a link that shows pictures of the coin you bought, please post it. Either way, I have never heard of this company, and I would be very, very, skeptical about ever buying anything from them for that reason alone. But given what you thought you were buying based on their description, and what you got, I would send the coin back and demand a refund.
They allowed me to keep the coin and I then paid to send it to NGC. NSA offered me a credit note but nothing in writing was ever received, just their suggestion in an e-mail. That Company was Numismatic Society Asia. Now there appears to be an offshoot called Collectors Auction House who have 'personal' connections to NSA. Here is the link to the NNC coin described as NGC. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/16682358_british-india-1918c-silver-rupee-ngc-ms65 They confirmed in an e-mail to me that they had checked the coin and it was NGC. This was not true.
IMHO no way that is a 65. that should have been a dead give away even with the falling NGC standards.
Collectors Auction House have said they will give me the NGC serial numbers I require by end of the day and now appear to be distancing themselves from NSA.....in an e-mail to me they talked about 'going their separate ways.' Banking charges to send money to Singapore is a killer and then there is a further charge for receiving the funds that gets kicked back to you.
so you actually did a bank transfer from the US to Sing. I have seen some passionate collectors of british india coins but this takes the cake.
