Received my Great Basis 3 roll set (P,D & S) from the mint the other day and cracked the rolls open. Wasn’t too impressed with the P’s, the D’s looked better, but OMG, the S’s were the best I’ve seen so far, all were high grade, probably 50% ms65 and 50% 66/67/68, and all the S’s appeared proof like with somewhat shiny fields and frosted devices. Did the mint use old proof dies for these? . My photo setup is on it’s way, so I’ll post pics later if I can get some good ones. Also, nice detail on the Bristlecone Pine. Have any of you cracked rolls, if so how do they look?
I haven't even seen an ATB quarter in circulation. But I haven't been looking. The state quarters wore me out collecting that sort of thing. So I said "No" to the ATB's.
I think the ATB quarters is a much better series than the State series. I like the national park theme and I think the designs are much more artistic than most of the state quarters. I'm in northern CA and I see them all the time in circulation.
I have a bunch of change on the top of my chest of drawers. So I pulled out all the quarters and did a quick check. The results are: -- Eagle Back Quarters = 27 ($6.75) -- State Back Quarters = 10 ($2.50) -- Bicentennial Back Quarters = 1 ($0.25) -- ATB Back Quarters = 0 ($0.00)
It seems like a lot of people on here haven't been seeing ATB's yet. I guess it all depends on where they live. I'm in Minnesota, and I've been finding ATB's for almost two years now. I've found every single design up to now (including Great Basin) just by looking through my change.
I have seen probably less than a dozen of the ATBs. It'd be nice if we could get some circulating around here. I guess since you don't see 'em that often people take them out of circulation when they do see them.
It’s fun collecting from circulation, my son and I started about six months ago, yet we have only found Denali & Hawaii. On the other hand, these circulation sets will probably see minimal, if any appreciation in our lifetimes. Another way to collect these quarters with a higher likelihood for appreciation is to buy sealed rolls from the mint and search them for high grade examples. We put the high grade ones in Air-Tite holders and may send them off for grading someday, if the value warrants the grading fee/risk. Take a look at what certified ms68’s are going for, it may already be time to send them in for certification.
