I received a 1987 proof cent in trade. Sight unseen. I imaged it would have nicks and scratches and I really didn't care. I have a 1987 Prestige Proof Set and everytime I look at it, all I wanted to do was pull that cent out of it. So when that other cent was available for trade, I jumped on it. The cent was in better shape than expected, I gave it a quick once over and put it away. Today I pulled it out to take a lookie.....here is my rant.... Why on earth does the mint have to make their expensive proof cents out of zinc planchets???? This coin of mine has plating issues!!! And even though it takes the same amount of labor to produce a copper proof as it does a zincer proof, the zincer is worth 1/3 of what the copper proof is worth (1982 & 1983 PCGS MS63 grade) That's nonsense :/ I did a check out my proof set and I'm happy to say it looks great with no issues, but from a collector's point of view, why take a chance anyway, make them out of copper. The mint can add 1 cent to the proof price to cover costs, I wouldn't mind. Rant over. Have a nice day.
