1948-D Lincoln Cent with a weird 8

    I'm trying to figure this one out - I was going through a bag of wheat cents and spotted something off with the date on this one. What do you make of it? Is there a die variety that I don't know about, or is this just some odd post-mint-damage?

    It is a damaged coin, so PMD.
